Portland- Thomas E. Wood, 60, of Yarmouth, died at Maine Medical Center on March 27, 2015 after a brief illness.
Tom was born in December 26, 1954 in Portland Maine. He was the son of Barbara and Thomas M. Wood. Tom spent his childhood in Yarmouth with his family. He enjoyed playing baseball and soccer as a youth, and later enjoyed playing golf. He was a graduate of Yarmouth High School in 1973, and the University of Maine with majors in government and history. Following graduation, he thoroughly enjoyed a trip to England and Ireland. Tom's interest in history and politics were lifetime interests. He also had a love and knack for growing plants, shrubs, and trees. He truly had a green thumb!
Tom worked on many homes in the Greater Portland area as a carpenter and boasted that he was a "darn good one at that".
He was predeceased by his father in 2010. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Wood of Yarmouth, his sister, Sandy Wilson and her husband Mark, also of Yarmouth, his sister Karen Clifford, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, his nephews Brett Wilson of Portland, Aaron Wilson, and his wife Nichole of North Yarmouth, Josh Clifford of Martha's Vineyard, and a niece, Elizabeth Clifford of Green Bay Wisconsin. He especially enjoyed his grandnephews, Carter and Rowan, and a grandniece Averie.
Tom loved being with his family during the holidays. His quick-witted humor brought much laughter to the dinner table.
Tom was a member of the Yarmouth Am Vets for many years. His friends there were treasured by him and loyal to the end. He was an enthusiastic participant in their fund raising activities, working many past summers in their Clam Festival food booth, and more recently working at the Christmas tree sales. Tommy will always be remembered by his family and friends for his sense of humor, his humility, and his generous, kind-hearted nature.
There will be a graveside service for family and friends at Riverside Cemetery in Yarmouth later in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tom's memory to Sons of Am Vets, Post 2, 148 North Road, Yarmouth ME. 04096, or to Changing Tide Foundation, 772 Island Ave. Long Island, ME 04050.
