Walter Richard Young 82 of Freeport, Maine passed away on August 31, 2017. He was born on October 21, 1934 in Wethersfield, VT. The only son of Helen Gelewsky. He was adopted by Theadore Young 1943 after Ted and Nellie were married. He lived in Goldsboro Maine and Graduated from Sumner High school.

After graduation he enlisted in the United States Coast leaving with a rank of SK Second class. While serving in the Coast Guard he met and Married Peggy Lauren West on July 14, 1957. After serving in the Coast...

Walter Richard Young 82 of Freeport, Maine passed away on August 31, 2017. He was born on October 21, 1934 in Wethersfield, VT. The only son of Helen Gelewsky. He was adopted by Theadore Young 1943 after Ted and Nellie were married. He lived in Goldsboro Maine and Graduated from Sumner High school.

After graduation he enlisted in the United States Coast leaving with a rank of SK Second class. While serving in the Coast Guard he met and Married Peggy Lauren West on July 14, 1957. After serving in the Coast Guard he attended Northeastern University where he graduated as a Public Accountant. He was a practicing Public Accountant in the Yarmouth area for close to 60 years and continued to practice until his passing. He also worked as a teacher in local schools and coached Babe Ruth baseball in North Yarmouth when he was younger. He worked as a volunteer fire fighter in North Yarmouth and was a member of the Masons.

After living in North Yarmouth, Walter and his wife Peggy settled in Freeport on a 40 acre farm. During this time he also owned and operated Pine Ledge Kennels, where his love of dogs and hunting were combined. Walter and Peggy together had 7 children and raising 6 of them on his gentleman farm. With his love of animals and gardening Walter was able to provide for his family. Later when the children were grown Walter and Peggy turned the farm into Young's Perennials, specializing in Day Lilys. He loved baseball and basket ball and would watch the games on television religiously. He enjoyed reading as much as Peggy and had a fondness for music.

He is survived by his children; Deborah Coffin and her husband Walter, Scott Young and his wife Tracy, Helena Fahey and her husband Richard, Thomas Young and his wife Alicia, Peter Young, Rebecca Baldwin and her husband Randy. Along with 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and another on the way.

He was preceded by an infant daughter Laurene Star and his beloved wife Peggy.


Friends and family are invited to attend memorial services at Lindquist Funeral Home 1 Mayberry Lane Yarmouth, Maine at 1:00P.M. Thursday September 7, 2017. A reception will follow at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date in Unity, Maine.
